Toshiki Sawada

Toshiki Sawada 沢田としき

Toshiki Sawada (1959–2010)  was born in Aomori. In addition to authoring picture books, he worked in commercial illustration and stage design, and also performed on the djembe, an African drum. His solo picture book titles include Afurika no oto (Sound of Africa), for which he received a Japan Picture Book Award in 1996; Chikyu no ue de (On This Earth); and Horozuki (Hooded Moon). He also produced cover art and collaborated with other authors on picture books, working in a variety of media and styles according to the nature of the project. Among his collaborative titles is Tsukiyo no kujira (Whales in Moonlight; story by Kazuyo Toda).
