Danjuro Ichikawa 市川團十郎

Danjuro Ichikawa (1946–2013)  , born Natsuo Horikawa, in 1985 became the 12th Danjuro Ichikawa, an illustrious Kabuki stage name that goes back to the Edo period. In 2004, during performances alongside his son Ebizo Ichikawa XI, he was diagnosed with leukemia, but was able to return to the stage after three long stretches in the hospital. He suddenly passed away on February 3, 2013, in the midst of preparations for the inaugural performance of the newly reconstructed Kabuki-za theater in Tokyo.
