Bin Konno 今野敏

Bin Konno  (1955–)  launched his literary career with Kaibutsu ga machi ni yattekuru (The Monsters Are Coming to Town), a short story about jazz musicians that won the Mondai Shosetsu Prize for New Writers in 1978, when he was still in college. Upon graduation he worked in production and advertising for a major record label before turning to writing full-time in 1982. In 2006 he received the Yoshikawa Eiji Prize for New Writers with Inpei sosa (Cover-Up Investigation); Kadan (Decision), the second book in the series, won the Mystery Writers of Japan Award and the Yamamoto Shugoro Prize in 2008. Among his other titles are the mystery Ikon (Icon, 1995), the police novel Rio (1996), and the suspense thriller Echudo (Etude, 2010), about the search for a random street attacker. Konno has more than 150 works of popular literature to his name, dealing in everything from science fiction to picaresque adventure, fantasy, and the occult; in recent years he has earned particular fame as the pioneer of a new variety of police novel. He is also a black belt in karate with his own school.
