Fumio Yamamoto 山本文緒

Fumio Yamamoto  (1962–)  originally wanted to become a manga writer, but began writing fiction on the side while working in an office job after graduating from college. She made her literary debut in 1987 when her short story Puremiamu puru no hibi (Days at the Premium Pool) received an honorable mention in the Cobalt Paperback Novel Prize competition, which has served as a launching pad for many writers of fiction for young girls. Turning pro as a writer, she produced numerous titles in this category over the next five years before shifting to fiction for the general reader in 1992. She received the Yoshikawa Eiji Prize for New Writers in 1999 for Ren'ai chudoku (Loveholic), and the Naoki Prize in 2000 for her story collection Puranaria (Planaria). After a lengthy break from publishing she returned with the collection Akapera (A Cappella) in 2008. She is known for the sharp eye with which she observes the subtlest psychological ripples of women making their way in today's world. Among her many other superb works is Fasuto puraioriti (First Priority, 2000).
