Make a variety of cute little dogs?a Shetland sheepdog, a bull terrier, a Japanese shiba, etc.?with felted wool. Variations in the color of the wool can be used to achieve both subtle and distinct gradations of color on the animals' faces or between light and dark patches on their bodies. The felting process also makes it easy to pose the dogs in whatever standing, sitting, or lying position one chooses.

First the body is shaped from a ball of wool, using felting needles to secure the desired shape. To this are added the legs, head, ears, and tail. Glass beads are attached for the eyes and nose, and finally wools of various shades are applied to yield the desired color effects for different parts of the body.

Instructions are provided for 24 species of dogs in all. Each creation is shown head-on, in profile, and from behind, in full-color photos on a two-page spread. The next two pages, in a two-color layout, present a list of the materials needed, step-by-step instructions for construction, and additional notes on points that call for special attention.
