Synopsis

This volume is a sequel to the best-selling Tenshi no kiba (The Angel's Fangs), which sold 110,000 copies in hardcover. In the battle between the police and a powerful crime syndicate that took place in that work, intrepid female cop Asuka Kono and the stunningly beautiful boss's moll Hatsumi Kanzaki are critically wounded by sniper fire. With both women on the verge of death, an operation is performed under a veil of secrecy to transplant Asuka's brain into Hatsumi's body, and after successful rehab, "Asuka Kanzaki" goes on to play a key role in bringing down the syndicate. Following resolution of that case, Asuka undergoes a period of training in the United States and is then reassigned to drug enforcement. She continues to be somewhat uncomfortable in her new body, however, and her relationship with Kazumasa Furuyoshi, who had been her lover when she was Asuka Kono, remains awkward even after he knows it is Asuka's consciousness in Kanzaki's body.

Meanwhile, the American doctor who performed Asuka's operation travels to Russia and performs another brain transplant there. In an effort to gain a monopoly on the miraculous surgical technology and its potential military application, the Russian SVR (Foreign Intelligence Service) moves to capture Asuka, setting up a confrontation with the American CIA, which is determined to prevent her from falling into Russian hands.

The Russians dispatch their brain transplant recipient to Japan. Known as the Wolf, he has been turned into a killing machine with fearsome physical strength and a brutally savage mind, and leaves slaughter and mayhem in his wake as he pursues his fellow brain-transplant recipient Asuka with extraordinary tenacity. The Special Assault Team (counter-terrorist unit) of Japan's National Police Agency and the riot unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department are called into action, and the conflicting interests of the Japanese, Russian, and American intelligence services as well as of organized crime collide: showers of bullets bloody the streets of Tokyo. As the heat of battle rises to the boiling point, Asuka and the Wolf finally meet face to face . . .
