Bun-ichi Co. is the publisher of Japan’s only bird-watching monthly, Birder, as well as an extensive selection of books, magazines, and electronic resources for the nature lover. The compact nature guides in the company’s Handobukku (Handbook) series are produced with a high-resolution printing process that offers crisp, clear photo reproductions even on the limited-size pages. With volumes devoted variously to a particular taxonomic group, habitat, lifecycle stage, etc., the books have gained many fans, from novices to seasoned experts. The series now runs to over 50 volumes, some released in iOS versions as well.

Other series issued by the company include the Poketto zukan (Pocket Guide) series, targeted at the complete beginner, and the Neicha gaido (Nature Guide) series for more advanced users, as well as larger format (A4-size) illustrated guides. Titles range across all aspects of nature and living things in Japan, and across all levels of interest?from readers looking for just the basics to those with advanced research needs. The company’s supplementary textbooks targeted at the elementary through middle-school grades, as well as its more academic titles on ecological subjects for undergraduate and graduate students, are also highly regarded.
